Famous for being the most northerly surf beach in Australia, Agnes Water also holds the Reef to Beach Longboard Classic in March. A fantastic place for beginners as well as experienced surfers.

The closest place to depart for the Southern Barrier Reef is the Town of 1770 and boat trips currently go to Lady Musgrave Island, Fitzroy and Llewellyn Reefs. The diving on the reefs is pristine and some of the best you will find. Lady Musgrave is a great place to snorkel from the beach. You can even camp there (although you need to be completely self sufficient)

It is possible to fly to Lady Elliot Island from Agnes Water (minimum of 4 people). Great for the view of the reef or if you are just short of time.

The inlet of 1770 has calm water and so great for hiring a canoe or kayak. Great exercise while exploring the untouched and deserted coves.

Fish from the rocks, take out a tinnie - or if you want a more guaranteed catch there is all year "Barra" fishing at Lake Awoonga.
